Totwoo bracelet not connecting?

Checks for iPhone and Android, in the order worth trying — disconnects first, then touches that never arrive, then sign-in. Most of these need nothing but your phone.

Who wrote this. We build Hapt Touch, an independent app that also works with compatible totwoo bracelets. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by totwoo, and totwoo is a trademark of its respective owner. The checks below are here because they help whether or not you ever use our app. Where our app is relevant we say so plainly, and we say what it does not fix.

The bracelet keeps disconnecting

A totwoo bracelet talks to your phone over Bluetooth Low Energy. The link drops for a small number of reasons, and they are worth ruling out in this order.

  1. Charge it past 20%. A low cell is the most common cause of a link that connects and then dies minutes later. Charge to full once, then retest.
  2. Check what else is connected. Some phones drop a low-energy accessory when a headset takes priority. Disconnect earbuds or a watch, retest, then reconnect them one at a time to see which one causes it.
  3. Forget and re-pair. A stale pairing record survives reinstalls. On iPhone: Settings → Bluetooth → the i next to the device → Forget This Device. On Android: Settings → Connected devices → the gear icon → Unpair. Then pair again from inside the app, not from the system Bluetooth screen.
  4. Turn Bluetooth off and on, then restart the phone. This clears a stuck radio state that no app can reset for you.
  5. Did you swipe the app away? On iPhone, an app you force-quit from the app switcher is not relaunched for Bluetooth events until you open it again. That is an iOS rule and it holds for every app on your phone, so if you close apps out of habit, that alone will stop a bracelet working.
  6. On Android, check battery optimisation. Settings → Apps → the app → Battery → allow unrestricted background use. Aggressive power saving on Samsung, Xiaomi and Huawei phones will kill a background Bluetooth connection on its own schedule.

Totwoo publish their own connection guidance, and it is worth reading alongside this: Having connection problems with your app.

If it only stays connected while the app is open on screen

That is a software behaviour, not a broken bracelet. An app can hold a Bluetooth link while it is in the background if it is built to — iOS calls this background Bluetooth with state restoration, and Android needs a foreground service. If your bracelet only works while you are looking at the app, no amount of re-pairing will change it.

Hapt Touch is built for that case: it keeps the link in the background, and if the link is down when a touch is sent, the touch waits on our server and is delivered once it can be — once, not twice.

Touches are not arriving, or arrive minutes late

  1. Check notification permission on both phones. A touch that arrives as a notification cannot arrive at all if notifications were declined once during setup. iPhone: Settings → Notifications → the app → Allow Notifications. Android: Settings → Apps → the app → Notifications.
  2. Check the sender, not just the receiver. A delivery failure looks identical on both ends. Send one touch each way and note which direction fails.
  3. Turn off Focus, Do Not Disturb and sleep schedules on the receiving phone while you test.
  4. Test on mobile data with Wi-Fi off. A captive or restricted Wi-Fi network blocks push delivery while looking perfectly connected.

If touches arrive only when both people have the app open, you are looking at the background-delivery problem above rather than a network problem.

You cannot sign in or create an account

If a verification code never arrives, or the app insists on a phone number you would rather not give, there is nothing to fix on your end — that is how that account system works. Hapt Touch signs in with Apple, Google or email, and never asks for a phone number.

If the checks did not help

Hapt Touch is an independent app for couples that sends touches, private messages and disappearing photos, and works with compatible totwoo bracelets over Bluetooth. It is the same bracelet on your wrist — a different app driving it.
